  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup Coca Cola
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Optional: Chocolate chips for extra decadence

Instructions

  • Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking pan.

Make the Cake Batter:

  • In a medium saucepan, combine 1 cup of Coca Cola, 1 cup of butter, and 1/4 cup of cocoa powder. Heat over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the butter is melted and the mixture is smooth. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the sugar, flour, baking soda, and salt.
  • Gradually add the Coca Cola mixture to the dry ingredients, stirring until combined.
  • In a small bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, eggs, and vanilla extract, then stir this into the cake batter.
  • Bake the Cake: Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let the cake cool in the pan for about 15 minutes before frosting.

Prepare the Frosting:

  • In a small saucepan, combine 1/2 cup of butter, 1/4 cup of Coca Cola, and 1/4 cup of cocoa powder. Heat until the butter is melted and everything is combined.
  • Remove from heat and whisk in the powdered sugar and vanilla extract until smooth. If you’re feeling indulgent, stir in a handful of chocolate chips for an extra chocolaty touch.
  • Frost the Cake: While the cake is still slightly warm, pour the frosting over the top and spread it evenly with a spatula. Let the frosting set for a few minutes before serving.
