Ingredients

  • 1 cup cabbage finely shredded
  • 1/2 cup carrots shredded
  • 1/2 cup bean sprouts optional
  • 1/2 lb ground pork or chicken
  • 2 green onions chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1/2 tsp ground ginger
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 12-15 egg roll wrappers
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch mixed with 1 tbsp water for sealing
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

  • Prepare the Filling: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground pork (or chicken) until browned. Add garlic, cabbage, carrots, bean sprouts, green onions, soy sauce, sesame oil, ginger, salt, and pepper. Stir-fry for about 5 minutes or until vegetables are tender. Remove from heat and let it cool.
  • Wrap the Egg Rolls: Lay an egg roll wrapper on a clean surface. Place about 2 tablespoons of the filling in the center. Fold the bottom corner over the filling, then fold in the sides. Roll it tightly, leaving the top corner open. Brush a little of the cornstarch paste on the edge and finish rolling to seal.
  • Fry the Egg Rolls: Heat about 2 inches of oil in a deep frying pan to 350°F (175°C). Carefully place a few egg rolls in the oil and fry for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown. Remove and drain on a rack or paper towels.
  • Serve: Enjoy hot with dipping sauces like sweet chili sauce, soy sauce, or spicy mustard!
